MPTS Hearings
Introduction
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (“MPTS”) was established in June 2012 to hear fitness to practise matters in a way that was operationally independent from the GMC which previously dealt with investigations and hearings. Harold Shipman had something of a hand in its genesis. The 2004 report following the Inquiry into Dr Shipman’s misdemeanours recommended some separation between the GMC as investigator and adjudicator of doctors. The majority of MPTS hearings take place in Manchester at St James’ Building.
In this section of our website we consider the types of hearing dealt with by the MPTS which are –
- Interim Orders Tribunals
- Fitness to Practise Hearings
- Review and Restoration Hearings and
- Non-Compliance Hearings
We also consider Appeals and Adjournments.
